Volcom, the clothing manufacturer based in Costa Mesa, California, is an innovative designer, marketer, and distributor of premium quality young men’s and young women’s clothing, accessories, and related products that are marketed under the Volcom brand name. The company was founded in early 1990s with the joint efforts of Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall (both of them active sports participants).
The firm’s apparel and accessories are sold in the United States at independent surf and skate shops and in about 40 countries abroad through their licensing agreements.
In early 2008, Volcom made its first acquisition, taking ownership of sunglasses brand Electric Visual. In just 15 years Volcom, Inc. had expanded its operations from a bedroom-based t-shirt company into one of the hottest and attractive clothing brands in the surf/skate/snowboard market. Even though now publicly owned (June 2005), the company was continuing to take its own path under the leadership of co-founder Richard Woolcott, and further growth looked certain.
